A plug-in hybrid - how does it work? The electric plug-in hybrid includes an electric motor and a petrol-twin engine. For electric power, the battery can be easily charged at home or at a charging station.

Charge the battery

The large battery offers only an electric range of 40 to 50 km * and can be easily charged at home or at a charging station. It is also charged while driving every time you press the brakes or slow down.

Charging times will vary and depend on factors such as outdoor temperature, current battery temperature, charging equipment, battery status, and vehicle status. You will find specific charging times in the technical specifications of each deceased electric model

The hybrid car with auxiliary battery uses an electric motor to aid the combustion engine. The hybrid car has an electric motor and a larger battery than the hybrid car with auxiliary battery. The entire hybrid car can power the vehicle with short-distance electric motors and recharge the battery using the engine or with renewed pressure on the brakes. The plug-in hybrid car can be recharged by literally connecting it to a home charging station or using a public charging station. The plug-in hybrid delivers a more pure electric range thanks to a larger battery pack and an electric motor. The plug-in hybrid will meet the daily mobility needs of many people.

Starting in 2019, all of our models are available with the plug-in hybrid power transmission technology with the twin-engine.

Your Volvo's plug-in hybrid engine comes with a basic charging cable that meets high electrical safety requirements (Type 2). Available in various formats (6A, 8A or 10A depending on the market), this 4.5 meter long cable provides charging up to 1.4-2.3 kW via a home plug. This cable is also available in an optional 8-meter replacement. For shorter charging times at home, you can complete it with a 16A single-phase "Blue Plug" cable capable of charging up to 3.5 kW. This cable is available in 4.5 meters and 8 meters. For a truly integrated and easy-to-use charging solution at home, the Volvo 16A Cargo Box mounted on the three-phase wall will be available later in 2019. Able to save up to 22 kW, this robust 3-way home charging station is compatible Also with future generations of hybrid cars connected to pure electric and electric. For convenient and safe charging outside, there is also a 16A single-phase 3A charging cable available as an accessory.
