Plug-in hybrid - how does it work?

XC40 Recharge
The first pure electric SUV arrives in late 2020. Combining the true design of the SUV, the high-performance, long-range electric transmission and intelligent practicality, you'll no longer have to bargain on driving more sustainably.
Electric motors double
The XC40 Recharge's power train consists of two 150 kW / 300 Nm electric motors, providing high performance and smooth driving experience.

Renew brake power
When the brakes are pressed or slowed down, the brake power is transferred to the battery for a longer period. This also gives you One Pedal Drive for smoother, more controlled driving.
Powerful battery
The large 78 kWh battery delivers more than 400 km / 200 miles * and can be easily charged at home or at a fast charging station with direct current. It also allows efficient pre-heating and cooling of the cabin. Distance varies according to real WLTP and EPA driving cycles under conditions adjusted relative to a new vehicle. Real distance may vary. The numbers are based on the initial target. The final vehicle certificate is pending.
The next pure XC40 Recharge features a nominal 78 kWh. The fully charged battery gives you a wide range of more than 400 km / 200 miles * when driving mixed before you need to recharge it. But the true distance is also influenced by its driving style and other conditions such as outdoor temperature, weather, wind, topography and roads. Other factors that affect distance are the amount of electricity you use for car functions such as heating and cooling the car. One way to improve distance is to pre-position your vehicle while charging so it is really comfortable on the go. You can also add a heat pump that provides valuable energy. But the battery is likely to be charged daily whenever the vehicle is parked and can be charged - whether at home, at work or in the city. So distance should not be a problem for daily driving provided you have a good way of shipping.

The charging time of the Volvo XC40 Recharged Pure Electric to be launched depends on the charging equipment you use and the electrical installation at home. The primary charging cable with the home connector is primarily an additional cable and is not recommended for normal charging. Charging an empty battery to 80% using this cable takes approximately 30 to 55 hours depending on the market. Or what might be more right: 7.5 to 14 kilometers per hour. For regular and much shorter charging times at home, we recommend that you complete the charge with a cable capable of charging up to 3.5 kW or 11 kW. These cables provide charging times of about 18.5-5.5 hours (about 20-60 km / h) respectively. But for the most efficient and integrated home shipping solutions, we recommend using the wall case designed by Volvo Cars. This powerful 11 kW, 32A supply gives you a charging time of approximately 5.5 hours (from empty battery to 80%) or 60 km / h. When charging at stations outside your home, the most likely cases are that you will fill the battery in short periods of time, for example from 40% to 80% (11 kW of AC gives a distance of 55 to 60 km / h). On long trips, you can charge your car using fast charging DC stations. At a 150 kW direct charging station, you can charge the battery from 10 to about 80% in about 40 minutes (or about 100 kilometers in 10 minutes). Time to take a break and eat a meal.

The cost of electricity varies depending on local conditions, but the cost can be lower compared to gasoline or diesel. Reduced fuel cost is also one of several reasons to switch to an electric car. For lower costs, you can set the XC40 Recharge that will be launched soon to be shipped at times when tariffs are lowest, often at night.
Our Volvo XC40 Recharge pure electric vehicle, which we will be launching soon, is well suited for comfortable long-distance driving. A high battery capacity of over 400 km / 200 miles * ensures you do this without worrying about distance. If you need to charge during the trip, you can do so at a slow charging station or a fast charging station with direct current. Fast DC charging up to 150 kW allows battery charge from 10 to 80% in about 40 minutes (or 100 kilometers in 10 minutes) - enough time to rest or have a meal during the trip.

* Distance varies according to real WLTP and EPA driving cycles under conditions adjusted to a new vehicle. Real distance may vary. The numbers are based on the initial target. The final vehicle certificate is pending.

All battery electric vehicles are subject to the same tests as gasoline or diesel cars. In Europe, Euro NCAP has long been a standard for vehicle safety. The test became more stringent with new demands, among other things, automatic brakes. At Volvo Cars, all cars in the entire model range received the highest marks in their tests. With XC40 Recharge's advanced safety technology to be launched, we offer one of the safest electric vehicles in the world.
